If your Xbox 360 has been affected by the "red ring of doom" then don't despair. You can repair your Xbox 360 console yourself, with a minimum of effort, time and cost. Don't listen to people who say that you will need to spend large amounts of money, or waste lots of time getting your console fixed. Learn the basic steps of Xbox 360 repair, console fixing isn't actually that hard.
The first Xbox 360 repair console secret you are going to learn is what causes the 3 red lights error in the first place. Believe it or not, but the cause of your Xbox 360's woes is actually overheating. Due to a lack of cooling devices such as fans and heat sinks inside the Xbox 360, heat is able to build up at a rapid rate. This then causes disruption and eventually damage to the components, leading to a host of errors such as the red ring of doom, or Xbox 360 system errors such as the "e74" error.
In order to fix these problems, you must address the principal cause of the 3 red lights error, overheating. Although you could send your Xbox 360 console away for repair by Microsoft, it will take a number of weeks to get your Xbox 360 back again, and if your warranty has expired it will cost you upwards of $100. That's why the best way to carry out these repairs is by doing them yourself.
I know it may sound crazy- opening up and fixing a complex piece of electronic machinery. However, it really isn't that hard as your Xbox 360 will be afflicted by what I like to call "set-piece" malfunctions. These are well-documented, easy-to-repair problems that even a tech beginner can fix.
All you need are the video files that will show you how to determine the exact problem that's requiring you to carry out Xbox 360 repairs. You need to use videos, as they will provide you with sufficient step-by-step detail to safely and easily carry out the necessary repairs, maintenance and checks on your Xbox 360.
How can you get these important video files then?
In order to have access to a set of Xbox 360 console repair videos, you will need to purchase an Xbox 360 repair guide. One of these will contain all the necessary videos that you need in order to be able to fix your Xbox 360.
It's important that the repair guide you use has free updates, customer testimonials, a money-back guarantee, high-quality video files and a price of less than $50. Only purchase one that fulfills all of the above criteria, to ensure that you are getting the best deal possible.
James Philipson has been involved in the electronics industry for over 10 years and has repaired more than 30 Xbox 360 consoles since the platform's release over two years ago.

Xbox 360 Repair Guide - Fix Red Light Errors In Less Than 1 Hour Today! A Free Quick Start Guide
By: Anthony Uccello
This is a short Xbox 360 repair quick start guide that can help you resolve Xbox 360 red light errors.
Before we begin, rest assured...
It is extremely frustrating to have your Xbox 360 go on the fritz. The first time it happens is the worst, as it likely caught you in the middle of the game and wiped out a lot of your progress. And, if you get red light errors (or the red ring of death) once, you will get it again. You will either need to send it for Xbox 360 repair, or you can perform Xbox 360 repair yourself. Thankfully, repairing yourself is easy, and it is a lot cheaper and faster (in fact it saves you over $100, and it takes less than an hour).
The good news is that 94% of systems don't need new parts, they just need a little tweak (a simple Xbox 360 repair) to get them up and running!
What is causing the 3 red lights?
The whole problem can be summed up in 1 word: heat. There is a design flaw with the Xbox 360: a shrunken LSI heat sink. The problem is that Microsoft made the LSI heat sink (the cooling unit) way to small. This was done in order to make room for the DVD drive. As a side note, all 11.6 million of the first systems sold have this problem, and Microsoft said all devices could fail. That means there are literally millions of people who need Xbox 360 repair, you are not alone and you are going to be able to fix it today!
Now, as you play, the motherboard heats up a lot. It usually reaches over 78*C after 15 minutes of play time. All this heat causes the motherboard to vibrate. These vibrations lead to a weakening of the soldering which holds the GPU (graphics processing unit). Once the soldering weakens too much, the GPU comes lose, and then you have your 3 red lights error.
Your Free Kick Start Xbox 360 Repair Guide: Here's your simple Xbox 360 repair guide
The basic problem is overheating. What you need to do is the following:
1. Remove the faceplate and cover
2. Remove the motherboard and heat sink
3. Put a spacer between the motherboard and heat sink (allows breathing)
4. Clean off the GPU and motherboard using an Q-tip
5. Put it all back together
Steps 1-5 are the basic essence of the Xbox 360 repair. As you can see, Xbox 360 repair is really not that complicated. If you have no technical experience, don't worry, there are step by step video Xbox 360 repair guides available that will show you how to perform your own Xbox 360 repair. The whole process can take less than an hour and you will be right back to gaming.
The great news is that once you fix this problem, you won't have to worry about it locking up on you again. The last thing you want to do if you have these red lights is do nothing. Either send it in for repairs or fix it. Just don't leave it and hope it goes away. Xbox 360 repair (if done safely and properly) is permanent.
Avoid "hack" theories out there such as hitting your system, heating it with a heat gun, or wrapping your system in a towel-all of these "Xbox 360 repair" methods are bogus. They will only damage your system.
The one problem with sending your system in to Microsoft (as they do have an Xbox 360 repair centre) is that it can cost up to $140 and it takes 4-6 weeks. Not to mention you are letting your Xbox live membership go to waste. Xbox 360 repair as you saw above isn't that complicated. The whole issue is heat, and you need to create breathing room between the heat sink and motherboard.
Once it is fixed, here is how to care for your Xbox 360
o One Xbox 360 repair is all you need, but let's still take care of your system! You need to let your system breathe. Do not put it in a small boxed in area like an entertainment system. If that's where you store it, take it out when you play. Also, make sure the back of your system is not covered to allow fresh are to get in. If you don't, your system will pump out hot air and then pump it back in-which is very bad!
o Don't put the power cord behind, beside, or on top of your system. The power cord heats up a lot too, and you don't want that heat compounding. Keep it separated and try to have it lay on a surface that doesn't insulate heat (i.e. carpets are bad, counters/tables are good).
o Do not use the Nyko intercooler. This is a defective product and it will actually damage your system. It causes burns and it drains a lot of power. This will actually make at home Xbox 360 repair impossible after a certain point because it will literally burn your system and you will need to get new parts. You have been warned.
o Since there is no tilt safety device, do not move your system when it's on. If you do you will end up scratching the disc inside. Also don't leave your system standing on its side while on, it causes the system struggle to keep the disc in place.
o Lastly, use a fail safe power bar. Electrical surges are bad for anything electrical and it would suck to have your system fry because of a freak electrical surge, especially when this is preventable.
Now you know...
Now you know that Xbox 360 repair isn't that complicated, you know what causes red lights (heat). You also know that there is a design flaw that is causing overheating and once it's fixed, you know you won't have these red lights anymore.
No matter what Xbox 360 repair you choose (at home, or send it in) make sure you take care of your system to prolong the life.

Xbox 360 Repair - History of Xbox 360 Repairs
By: Justin Gourley
Xbox 360s are well known and desired gaming consoles. The graphics alone are amazing. Xbox Live is the best worldwide online play, just ask any gamer. Call of Duty, Gears of War, and Halo are wildly popular games that can only be played on Xbox 360 gaming systems. And with the soon to be released Project Natal and Xbox 720 the desire for this game console does not seem to be wavering.
But from the start this console has been a very expensive gaming system. They also have had a lot of problems from the start. You have the Red Rings of Death, E-74 Error among many others, and DVD Drive problems. And of course Microsoft was not fixing these outside of it 1 year warranty until recently. Now it covers certain problems for 3 years but then it can be up to 3 months before you can get your console back. But they charge $140 if you are out of warranty or your system does not fit into the errors covered by the extended warranty. So what did gamers do?
They started trying to find ways to fix the Xbox 360 themselves. And oh the ways that they came up with fixing them. They towel trick or the X-Clamp. Now most people that own a business doing Xbox 360 repair use a technique called reflowing. Some people will use a hot air gun which can not be controlled nor is considered a good repair, and others use a Auyoe 968 which is a hot airflow rework station or a Jovy RE-7500 which uses infrared.
By 2007 the price of the 360 Arcade unit was down to $199.00. So now it was off to eBay to sell the broken Xbox 360. People were selling the broken Xbox 360 for anywhere from $50.00 to 100.00 so they had some money to go buy a brand new unit.
People started buying broken consoles along with the Red Ring of Death guide to fix the broken Xbox's and make some money. Some people did it to make a little money while others started business out of it. Most people that started a business for repairing these systems found the repairs in the guides were not always the best repair options. But to this day, Xbox 360 Repair guides are still hot selling items.
